Roger Fern, Vice Chair of Corporation

Roger Fern – Ipswich Borough Council

Roger moved to Ipswich in 1957 and hopes he now qualifies as a ‘son of Ipswich’ as, apart from two periods away as a student, he has lived in the Borough ever since. He entered the teaching profession in 1965, has been a secondary teacher, a primary head teacher and, on his full-time retirement in 2003, was a County Education Adviser. He still keeps in touch with education in the County, however, in his role as a School Governor and as a member of the Suffolk College Corporation.

Roger is a member of Museum Street Methodist Church, and has been a member of the local Council for Racial Equality and Indian Association. He is also a season ticket holder at Ipswich Town Football Club, and enjoys a game of squash (always with someone of a similar age or skill!) and with his grandson has recently taken up golf. Roger is a former Mayor of Ipswich.

Roger is Vice Chair of Corporation, and Chair of the Academic Standards Committee.
