Peter Mortimer MBE

Peter is an Anglican Priest and the Ecumenical Adviser to the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. He studied at St John's College York and the University of Essex and holds a Cert Ed and an MA. He is a Member of the Order of the British Empire, and the Territorial Decoration has been conferred on him. Peter is a Sub-Chaplain of the Order of St John and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Peter qualified as a teacher and taught Religious Studies. He later trained as a probation officer at the Home Office and worked in Yorkshire before moving to East Anglia. He was for many years the Assistant Chief Probation Officer with the Suffolk Probation Service based in Ipswich

Peter was involved in establishing the Public Services course within the College. Having served for nearly forty years in the Territorial Army and Cadet Forces, he retired with the Honorary Rank of Colonel. He has also worked nationally and locally for the Princes Trust.

Peter Mortimer was Chair of Corporation from 2005 until 2009, after serving four years as Vice Chair. He had also been the Chair of the Academic Standards Committee.
