John Bicknell, Chair of Finance & Employment Committee

John Bicknell’s career spans more than thirty years and numerous industry sectors including Aerospace, Telecommunications and IT. He has had more than twenty years experience at board level and in general management in companies ranging from start-ups to blue-chip multinationals.

John holds a Masters degree in Electronics from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He began his professional career at Philips Research Laboratories and during his time in research and development he was the named inventor on more than a dozen patents and published numerous papers. He then moved to a UK systems house, ERA Technology, to start a new division specialising in aerospace systems, building the business to a significant proportion of the Company’s turnover. He then moved to Lucas Aerospace to head up a new range of ‘fly by wire’ engine management systems now installed on the Boeing and Airbus aircraft. John’s next move was to BT, where had a variety of senior management roles, including the thriving Global Solutions business. He is currently Director of Clarify Consulting Ltd, which provides leading-edge business management and consultancy services.

John is a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the Institute of Management Consultancy and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. His leisure interests include music and the arts, all forms of technological gadgetry and cars with character.
